The Co-operative Party in Northern Ireland was launched on 1 July 2009 at the Ulster Hall, Belfast with the General Secretary in attendance. Members present unanimously agreed to form the Co-operative Group Northern Ireland Co-operative Party and elected officers and an executive.  It is worth noting that the Co-operative Party in Northern Ireland was already running informally up to this time, actively recruiting members and raising awareness of the Party and its work and objectives. The Party continues to work in partnership with like-minded organisations to promote cooperation and campaigning on issues related to co-operative development.
